Apr 04, 2014 /prREACH/ -- Boulder Sausage began in the fall of 1961, when Don Olk moved to Boulder, Colorado from Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He brought with him a real talent for making sausage and some great recipes that he had acquired from his father who learned the art of making quality sausage in his hometown in Germany. He felt that his Boulder Sausage Gluten-Free Breakfast Sausage is the perfect way to start the morning off right. Boulder Sausage uses a world-famous recipe that sausage lovers are sure to adore. With premium cuts of select pork, lightly spiced with a hint of black pepper they create a delicious sausage taste that will make mouths water and have people up and ready to take on the day.

After moving to Colorado, Don started a small meat market/delicatessen featuring his own delicious sausages and other meat products such as salami, corned beef, miscellaneous meat and cheese products. Don called his delicatessen/meat market “Don’s Cheese and Sausage.” It was located near the 1400 block of Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. The smell of this Gluten-Free sausage cooking in the morning will bring the family running. Just one bite of the New Cranberry Orange Breakfast Sausage and anyone can see why these sausages are unlike any other.

From 1962 to 1980 Don’s Cheese and Sausage deli’s continued to attract customers from all over Boulder County with his main lunch special featuring his homemade Bratwurst sandwich, fresh warm German Potato Salad and his own special baked beans. During this time Don’s deli’s expanded into the Denver, Broomfield, Longmont, Ft. Collins, and Greeley markets. Don’s Cheese and Sausage delis were fast becoming one of Colorado’s favorite lunchtime establishments. It wasn’t until 1985 that Don’s Cheese and Sausage, under new ownership, decided to branch into selling wholesale sausage to the grocery stores under the name of the “Boulder Sausage Company.” In 1989, GBS Partners, Inc., purchased Boulder Sausage and Don’s Cheese and Sausage and proudly produces and sells Don’s great recipes under the Boulder Sausage label. GBS Partners feels very strongly about carrying on the heritage, commitment to quality, freshness and flavor that Don established five decades ago.

In 1994 Boulder Sausage moved into a new facility. Boulder Sausage continues to upgrade equipment and procedures to continue producing the best sausage products in the Colorado area. Boulder Sausage takes great pride in their emphasis on operating in full compliance with the SSOP/HAACP program as outlined by the United States Department of Agriculture. Although Don is no longer around, his dreams and products live on in Boulder Sausage. Enjoy a truly authentic tasting treat brimming with flavor with the Gluten-Free natural Italian Sausage. This delicious sausage will awaken the senses with its blend of Italian herbs and spices.
