Oct 24, 2013 /prREACH/ -- Dr. Baltasar Jimenez of Beneva Dental recently introduced dental implants for his Sarasota, FL patients who are seeking a better alternative to dentures, crowns or bridges for missing teeth. With this new dental implant procedure, Dr. Jimenez is able to provide patients with restorations that look, feel, and function just like natural teeth.

“New dental implant technology is helping us to give our patients’ smiles a second chance,” said Sarasota, FL dental implants dentist, Dr. Baltasar Jimenez. “Patients who have lost teeth or have had extractions due to injury or decay no longer have to rely on misfit or loose dentures, or crowns and bridges that don’t look natural with their smile. Implants allow us to restore function, but it also gives our patients an enormous boost in self-confidence and a smile they can finally be proud of.”

Dental implants involve a small titanium stud that is surgically implanted in the jaw bone—mimicking the root of a natural tooth—and a porcelain crown that is placed on the titanium stud after surgery.  Once the titanium stud has been placed in the jawbone, the patient generally has a required healing phase of 3-6 months to allow the stud to fuse with the jaw bone. During that time, patients are given temporary crowns or dentures.

Once the healing phase has been completed, the porcelain crown can be customized to match the shape, size, and color of the patient’s other teeth. Or, in some instances, dental implants can replace entire upper or lower arches if needed, giving patients an entirely new smile. Dental implants look and feel like natural teeth, but in most instances are stronger than natural teeth and aren’t susceptible to cavities as natural teeth are.

In addition to improving aesthetics and function of the smile, dental implants help preserve the bone structure of the jaw, which can atrophy over time when teeth are not present.

Along with his staff at Beneva Dental, Dr. Jimenez and his staff offer a variety of other services beyond dental implants.
