Jan 20, 2014 /prREACH/ -- Dr. Keith Kelley, cosmetic and dental implants dentist in Troy, MI recently introduced CEREC technology to provide patients with same-day crowns. CEREC, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, uses the latest 3D and laser technology to design and create ceramic crowns in-office, a process that traditionally is completed by an external lab.

Rather than requiring 1-2 weeks to complete a procedure for a porcelain crown, Dr. Kelley is now able to provide patients with the same results in just a few hours and within one office visit. “CEREC has really revolutionized the way we do porcelain restorations for our patients,” said Dr. Keith Kelley, cosmetic and general dentist in Troy, MI. “Not only do we save our patients ample amounts of time by consolidating the process into one visit, but we’re also able to provide them with a crown that fits better, and a process that is much less complicated.”

Traditional porcelain crowns are completed using a multi-step process that spans over the course of 1-2 weeks. The patient’s first visit typically involves taking molds and measurements of the teeth, preparing the tooth for the crown and receiving a temporary crown while they wait for the lab to create the permanent porcelain restoration. Once the crown is completed, the patient returns for a second visit to have the crown placed, or re-measured if it fits improperly. Because CEREC can complete all steps within a few short hours, there’s no need for the patient to receive a temporary crown which is adhered with non-permanent cement bond. “The CEREC process is also a great benefit for our patients because it eliminates the risk of infection of the tooth underneath the temporary crowns, since we don’t have to provide them with one in the first place,” said Dr. Kelley. “The process is now very streamlined and stress-free for our patients.”

Dr. Kelley is a graduate of the University Of Michigan School Of Dentistry, one of the top ranked dental schools in the nation, and has been practicing dentistry for more than 30 years. He is a member of several professional organizations including the Michigan Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, among several others.  Since 2002, Dr. Kelley has been chosen as one of America’s Best Dentists by the Consumer’s Research Council of America.
