Feb 12, 2014 /prREACH/ -- Dr. Richard Dunn of Chemung Family Dental recently introduced CEREC technology to offer local Elmira, NY the chance to receive same-day restorations like crowns, veneers, and inlays. With CEREC, patients no longer have to wait several weeks and make multiple office visits just to get the smile improvements they need.

CEREC, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, is some of the latest dental technology available on the market that uses computer imaging and laser technology to design and sculpt restorations in-office.

“One of our goals at Chemung Family Dental is to provide our patients with the most advanced tools and procedures in dentistry, and with CEREC, we’re able to fulfill that goal,” said Dr. Richard Dunn, cosmetic and dental implants dentist in Elmira, NY. “With this tool, we’re able to provide them with a better product in a time frame that works better with their busy schedule.”

The traditional process to receive crowns or veneers required at least two dentist visits and at least 1-2 weeks to complete the process. On the first visit, impressions were taken and sent to an external lab and once completed, those restorations were placed during the second visit. With any discrepancies, however, the process would begin again and the patient would require more office visits. CEREC eliminates the entire process and instead completes the task in just a couple hours.

With CEREC, patients can have digital impressions taken of their teeth and with those measurements, Computer Aided Design (CAD) software precisely designs the restoration needed. The CEREC machine then mills the restoration from a small porcelain block using laser technology, and the restoration is fitted, polished, and bonded.

Beyond providing same-day crowns, veneers, and inlays with CEREC, Dr. Dunn is also a preferred Invisalign dentist in Elmira, NY. He has received additional training in treating jaw and facial pain, and is a certified TMJ dentist in Elmira, NY. For those seeking a dramatic smile transformation with minimal cost, Dr. Dunn is a teeth whitening dentist in Elmira.

Dr. Dunn completed his DDS degree at New York University College of Dentistry. Soon after graduation, he served as a commissioned officer in the United States Public Health Service for two years. Through his 25 years as a practicing dentist, Dr. Dunn has received several awards and recognitions, including one achieved by only 3.5 percent of dentists in the U.S., the Fellowship in the American College of Dentists. He is also a member of the New York State Dental Association, American Dental Association, and several more.
