Aug 17, 2015 /prREACH/ -- SAN DIEGO—August 15, 2015— Former San Diego Chargers Hall-of-Famer Wes Chandler is preparing to host the inaugural NanoTecNexus Celebrity Golf Classic, Friday, October 23 at the Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club in San Diego. Chandler will be joined by co-host Cindy Matalucci, of The PulseSD.com.

The tournament is presented by Ranch & Village Homes, LLC and organized by NanoTecNexus in partnership with Wes Chandler, President of Major League Football. This two-day event includes a VIP celebrity reception on Thursday night, October 22, at the Del Mar Country Club. Participation and sponsorship opportunities for this grand event are available at http://celebritygolf.nanotecnexus.org.

Chandler, a four-time Pro Bowler and NFL record-holder for average yards per game of 129.0, draws celebrities from all over the country. Invited celebrity guests include former Chargers Anthony Miller and NFL Hall-of-Famer Charlie Joiner; Former MLB player and Giants/Reds/Cubs manager Dusty Baker; Dan Fouts, former Charger All-Pro QB and Hall-of-Famer; Emmitt Smith, former Cowboy, Hall-of-Famer, and two-time NFL rushing leader; and Christopher Knight, former Brady Bunch TV star. The list continues with other greats like Darren Bennett, Mike Husted, Pete Shaw, Willie Buchanon, Israel Stanley, Andre Reed many more.

Participants in the golf tournament have the unique opportunity to be part of a community that wants to bring 21st Century STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education to K-12 students. That is the goal at NanoTecNexus—to make nanoscience education accessible to under-served students and help change lives for a better future.

Three facts make this effort especially important—society’s increased dependence on technology, more than 50 percent of public school students live at the poverty level, and more than 85 percent of elementary school teachers have not received science-related professional development in more than three years. Adriana Vela, Founder and CEO of NanoTecNexus says that this is why nanoscience STEM education is so important. NanoTecNexus hopes to help the disenfranchised get more excited about STEM to help humankind in the future.

Karen Van Ness, co-founder at Ranch & Village Homes LLC, also believes the importance of the future depends on science and technology and the goals set forth by NanoTecNexus, and is a participating sponsor of this event. Proceeds from the celebrity golf classic will benefit NanoTecNexus, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to changing lives through nanoscience STEM education. Quotes
"I chose to be part of this event because I believe the future of humanity depends on science and technology. First we need to get everyone on board with understanding what the lack of education is going to do in the future." "That's why NTN's goal of changing lives through nanoscience STEM education is so relevant. By helping the disenfranchised to get excited about STEM, we can develop problem solvers now to help address the big problems facing humankind in the near future."
