A new and upcoming Pro 2 race team is in the works for the 2015 race season. Oscar Cruz Racing (OCR) may be new to the Lucas Oil Series, but driver Oscar Lara certainly isn't new to racing. Competitive to the core, Oscar has been playing in dirt and riding motorcycles and driving trucks since he was little. In previous years, Oscar has competed in California desert racing throughout the state and is eager and ready to expand his racing, and winning, to Lucas Oil Off Road Race Series (LOORRS). For those not familiar with this exciting format, LOORRS racing consists of short course off-road racing with a West Coast influence creating intense four wheel door to door action at fan-friendly tracks.
Currently, Oscar's custom Pro-2 truck is in the process of being built. In the meantime, OCR is actively looking for sponsors to partner with and help them evolve their business with a creative and dynamic race team.
Born and raised in Escondido, California, Oscar caught the race bug early often spending countless hours as a child playing with toy trucks and motorcycles in the dirt. This was to be the beginning of his lifelong passion for offroad racing. As a teen, Oscar began driving trucks and riding motorcycles in the desert. Later, after moving to Northern California, he built his own desert race truck with no formal schooling and no sponsor money. Oscar diligently saved money from his paychecks and slowly but surely built his truck. Self-taught with just about everything from welding the chassis to building the truck's engine, Oscar takes a can-do approach to everything he's involved with.
In 2002, Oscar raced his home-built desert truck in the Valley Off Road Racing Series (VORRA) in Northern California and did extremely well winning a number of races. Even after that success, Oscar's desire to build a faster and better truck was always on his mind. Now, after years of planning and saving money, Oscar and his sponsors will be racing his Pro 2 truck in the LOORRS series in 2015.
Oscar lives in Sacramento, California with his wife and young son and is expecting his second son at the end of May.
