    SAN FRANCISCO, California - October 13, 2014 - TerraVerve(TM), a gourmet food company, has recently launched its first product: organic matcha green tea powder. TerraVerve(TM) has a mission to share healthy, tasty foods for the world, and founder Emily Quinn says, “Matcha is a perfect first offering for us, and we are so excited to increase awareness of this amazing superfood that has yet to go mainstream.”

    Matcha is considered one of the most difficult to produce teas in the world, with only a handful of Japanese farmers possessing the knowledge to grow and process it correctly. The tea leaves are shade-grown, causing a massive surge in the production of chlorophyll and a high concentration of nutrients in the leaves. Tender young leaves are carefully picked, and the whole leaves are stone-ground to preserve the nutrients.

    Matcha is the most antioxidant rich of all fruits and vegetables. Comparing ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbing Capacity) antioxidant scores, matcha has a score of 1,573, while blueberries have a score of 93, and spinach has a score of just 26.

    Matcha also has high levels of L-Theanine, an amino acid that some believe increases alpha waves in the brain, and correlates with reduced stress levels. It has been suggested that the combined effect of L-Theanine with the natural caffeine in the matcha tea powder can provide a long lasting increase in energy and focus. Indeed, matcha was first used by Japanese Zen monks to support their meditation practices.
