Nov 07, 2015 /prREACH/ -- When homeowner Rhonda Dupree in Houston selected Whitestone Builders as the custom builder for her home, she requested the house to be built around a vintage-inspired icehouse and the 22’ antique shuffle board which it would house.

Working from the icehouse concept, Whitestone Builders created what would surprisingly become a multi-award winning masterpiece for Rhonda and her partner, Jeff Bailey.

The Houston home was not only a July finalist for four awards from the Texas Association of Builders, but on October 3rd also won three awards and was a finalist for two others from the Greater Houston Building Association (GHBA). The icehouse in Rhonda’s home won the award for Best Specialty Room in homes under $1M.

David Gordon, President of Whitestone Builders, explains that they performed a special treatment on the room’s ceiling and used exposed HVAC pipes to replicate the look of authentic icehouses. A highly polished, stained concrete floor was applied to reflect the industrial-style lighting and a glass garage door was used to bring natural light into the room. The result was a distinctive room that now hosts Rhonda’s numerous party guests and provides her family with a special place to relax and play.

"It was really important that the home be built around the icehouse and, from the way they did the ceiling in the icehouse to the kitchen design, this home has exceeded expectations," says Rhonda. "The collaboration was superb and the outcome was thrilling."

Gordon says "This was a challenging and very gratifying project on multiple levels. Of course It was delighting to receive such awards from GHBA, but seeing the absolute joy of clients like Rhonda is what fuels the firm's passion for homebuilding."

In addition to Best Specialty Room, Whitestone Builders won other awards for Rhonda’s home, including Best Custom Home Design and Custom Home Kitchen, both for homes $500k-$1M, and was a finalist for the highly coveted Custom Builder Grand Award as well as for Best Custom Bath in a home $500k-$1M.

The GHBA was founded in 1941 and is reportedly the largest home builder’s association in Texas, and the fourth largest in the USA. Each year, they host the PRISM (Professional Results in Sales & Marketing) competition where an independent panel of building industry specialists from across the nation serves as judges.
