Feb 25, 2017 /prREACH/ -- The 2017 New York Times Travel Show, held January 27-29 in Manhattan, was one of the largest in recent years with over 500 exhibitor booths and more than 29,000 attendees.

As one of the event’s main sponsors, Chile Tourism partnered with Craft Travel, LATAM Airlines, Marmot and the top Chilean hotel brands to promote awareness for one of the fastest growing national tourism industries in South America. With the Atacama Desert’s recent distinction as the “#2 Place to Visit in 2017” according to The New York Times, consumers were more eager than ever to learn more about the San Pedro region and beyond.

One of the show’s most popular attractions, the official Chile booth featured a stationary bicycle with a virtual reality headset provided visitors with a chance to cycle for a 3D view of Chile’s five most notable regions: Atacama Desert, Santiago and the Wine Region, Lake District, Torres del Paine and Easter Island.

Visitors to the booth were also entered in to win a trip to the region of their choice as part of the “Marmot Meets Chile” sweepstakes. The itinerary, provided by Craft Travel, offers travelers the chance to select the adventure within Chile that’s right for them.

The booth also boasted a daily drawing during the show for Marmot hiking gear, ideal for any Chilean adventure, valued up to $1,000.

The popularity of the booth and the prominence of Chile throughout the event reflects the country’s increasingly significant role as a heavyweight in the tourism industry.

“Craft Travel was very impressed to see the sizable turnout for travelers strictly interested in Chile,” said Julia Carter, Craft Travel’s Director of Sales. “This is the third year exhibiting at the show and Craft Travel has never heard so much buzz on Chile, and essentially all of it is positive. It’s difficult to find a destination that ranks more favorably in the eyes of international travelers at the moment.”
