Jun 19, 2014 /prREACH/ -- Dr. Andrew Holloman of Clearwater, FL recently introduced DIAGNOdent laser technology that is helping to detect cavities in their earliest stages, allowing patients to preserve more of their natural teeth and avoid costly restorative procedures. The DIAGNOdent Laser Detection Caries Aid created by Kavo is one of the latest advances in preventative and restorative dentistry.

Traditional cavity detection is performed through x-rays and visual exams, however, it’s common with these methods to only detect cavities that are in their later stages and need more complex restorative care. The DIAGNOdent laser, however, is 90 percent more accurate in detecting cavities in their earlier developmental stage.

“One of the main goals of our practice is to incorporate the latest dental technology into our everyday care to make sure we’re giving our patients the best chance at achieving optimal oral health,” said Dr. Andrew Holloman, cosmetic dentist in Clearwater, FL. “The DIAGNOdent laser really represents that high standard, and we’re excited to now offer it to patients to continue to improve their oral health.”

The DIAGNOdent laser detects cavities using fluorescence, which exposes bacteria on the teeth that is beginning to develop cavities. The tool is a small, handheld device—similar to a pen—that is quick and painless when scanned throughout the mouth to detect cavities.

Because the DIAGNOdent laser detects cavities so early, Dr. Holloman is able to provide restorative care that is much less invasive. With smaller cavities, oftentimes no anesthesia and minimal drilling is required to restore the tooth to a functional condition. Because less invasive care is needed, it generally prevents the patient from having to pay for more costly procedures when decay has reached its advanced stages, causing the patient to need a crown or root canal.

Dr. Holloman and his staff incorporate a variety of other advanced technology for patient care, including digital x-rays. He is a trained and certified dental implants dentist in Clearwater, FL to offer patients with missing teeth a better alternative to dentures. Dr. Holloman is also a highly skilled sedation dentist in Clearwater, FL, and offers emergency dental care for those who need attention outside of regular business hours.

Dr. Holloman graduated with a DDS degree from the University Of Oklahoma College Of Dentistry with honors. After graduation, Dr. Holloman went on to receive advanced training at a general dentistry residency program at OU, where he became skilled in cosmetic and implant dentistry, as well as sedation and pediatric dentistry. Dr. Holloman is a member of the ADA and several other professional dental associations.
