Oct 31, 2013 /prREACH/ -- Dr. James Kiehl of Nashua Family Dentistry recently introduced CEREC technology to provide patients with a faster, more economical option for teeth restorations. With this new technology, Dr. Kiehl is now able to provide most porcelain restoration within a single visit, a process that traditionally takes up to several weeks.

CEREC, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, is the latest in dental technology that uses high powered lasers and computer 3D imaging to measure, design, and create porcelain restorations in-office. Not only does this eliminate the need for messy and uncomfortable molds and trays, but it significantly reduces the time required for patients to receive permanent restorations for decayed, broken, or worn teeth.

“We’re excited to have this CEREC technology at our office since it gives us the chance to give patients a much improved experience with dental restorations,” said Dr. James Kiehl, cosmetic dentist at Nasua Family Dentistry, Nashua NH. “Instead of requiring several visits over the course of 2-3 weeks, we can complete most of the necessary restorative procedures to give our patients happy, healthy smiles in just one visit.”

For porcelain restorations such as crowns, inlays, or onlays, the traditional method involved taking molds of the patient’s mouth in-office, sending those measurements to a lab, and then placing the restoration 1-2 weeks later after it had returned from the lab. During that process, the patient was given a temporary restoration that was commonly uncomfortable or unstable. With CEREC, patients no longer have the hassle of traditional restorations, and only have to take time out of their daily lives for one visit.

Porcelain crowns, inlays, and onlys are effective treatments for teeth that have been damaged as a result of decay, breakage, or age. With these porcelain restorations created by CEREC technology, Dr. Kiehl is able to create precisely-milled pieces that are sure to restore or improve the tooth’s natural shape and function.
