Oct 21, 2016 /prREACH/ -- Moser Orthodontics of San Diego, will again be offering to buy back candy from students willing to surrender their Halloween treats. Each pound of candy will net a dollar towards the child’s school. Surrendered candy is then donated to military troops, The San Diego Rescue Mission, Casa del Los Pobres, Girl Scouts, and other local organizations.

Last year, Moser Orthodontics collected over 3,000 pounds of candy. The buy back program also keeps excess sugar from students diets leading to healthier teeth. The main cause of tooth decay is sugar and acidic foods or drinks. Bacteria feeds on sugar and produces acid that eats away at the teeth. Limiting candy, with healthy eating, play an integral role in overall health and has an impact on oral hygiene, according to American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.

Over the past seven years, the buy back program at Moser Orthodontics has donated over $19,000 to local schools. With this fundraiser, schools use money to supplement school supplies and programs.
